Dog-friendly pubs in Folkestone and Sandgate

Dog-friendly pubs, Folkestone & Sandgate: illustration of a dog standing by a water bowl, with a bar, a bar stool and a bone on the other side

Dogs are welcome in the bar areas at four L&B pubs: The Pullman and Harbour Inn in Folkestone, Cat & Fiddle on Rendezvous Street and The Ship Inn in Sandgate. You’re welcome to eat with your dog in the bar areas, but dogs can’t come into the restaurant areas. Dogs are welcome at Panataria, our café, too, but we can’t have them inside Luben. Assistance dogs are welcome at all our venues.

A walk by the sea is better with somewhere to stop at the end of it. Here’s where you and your dog can sit down for a drink.

In town: The Pullman

7–9 Church Street, Folkestone CT20 1SE

Dogs are welcome in the bar at The Pullman, our first pub, in the town centre. There’s a fire in the colder months, which your dog will probably find before you do.

In Sandgate: The Ship Inn

Dogs are welcome in the bar at The Ship Inn. It’s on Sandgate High Street by the beach, and there’s been a pub here since 1798. The Lower Leas Coastal Park runs along the seafront between Folkestone and Sandgate, so you can walk your dog along the coast and finish here.

On the harbour: Harbour Inn

24–26 Harbour Street, Folkestone CT20 1QN

Dogs are welcome in the bar at Harbour Inn, on Harbour Street and a short walk from the Harbour Arm. The dining rooms are dog-free, but there’s a bar menu as well as the restaurant menu, and you can eat with your dog in the bar. If you’re after seafood, our seafood guide has more.

On Rendezvous Street: Cat & Fiddle

13 Rendezvous Street, Folkestone CT20 1EY

Dogs are welcome in the bar at Cat & Fiddle too. It’s our music bar, and it’s walk-in only, so there’s no need to book. It’s open Wednesday to Saturday and closed Sunday to Tuesday, so check the times on the venue page before you set off.

On Rendezvous Street: Panataria

15 Rendezvous Street, Folkestone CT20 1EY

Sunlit tables and bar stools inside Panataria on Rendezvous Street, Folkestone

Dogs are welcome at Panataria, our deli and café, a few doors from Cat & Fiddle. It’s open every day from 9:30AM to 4PM and it’s walk-in only. You can eat in or take a coffee and a sandwich away over the counter, which is handy before a long walk.

London & Paris Hotel: the function room bar

London & Paris Hotel, at 28 Harbour Street next door to Harbour Inn, is our adults-only hotel. Dogs are allowed in the bar area of its function room, which you can hire for a do. Dogs can’t go in the bedrooms, so it isn’t a place to stay with your dog.

Where dogs can’t come

  • The restaurant areas at all four pubs. You can eat with your dog in the bar areas instead.
  • Inside Luben, our pizza restaurant at 24 Rendezvous Street, which hasn’t got a bar. You can still take a Luben pizza away.
  • The bedrooms at London & Paris Hotel.

Assistance dogs are welcome at all our venues.

Good to know

There are water bowls and dog treats everywhere dogs are allowed.

Please keep your dog on a lead, off the seats and away from the kitchen pass. If it’s really packed, we might ask you to wait outside or pop back later.

Out early with the dog? Breakfast is served every day from 10AM to 12 at The Pullman, The Ship Inn and Harbour Inn: see our breakfast guide. For more on each pub, there’s our guide to Folkestone’s pubs. For quiz nights, live music and other dates at our pubs, see What’s on.

Walking your dog nearby

Folkestone & Hythe District Council looks after the beaches and the coastal park, and its rules are worth knowing:

  • Between 1 May and 30 September, seasonal dog restrictions apply on some beaches, including Sunny Sands and Sandgate beach. The council’s dogs on beaches page has a map of where they apply.
  • In the Lower Leas Coastal Park, dogs need to be on a lead in the areas marked for it.
