For seafood in Folkestone, our pick is Harbour Inn at 24–26 Harbour Street. The fish comes from the local boats, and the ‘Catch of the Day’ board changes with what’s landed. The Pullman in town and The Ship Inn in Sandgate do fish too.
Folkestone still has a working harbour, and that’s good news if you like fish.
On the harbour: Harbour Inn
24–26 Harbour Street, Folkestone CT20 1QN
L&B reopened the old True Briton as Harbour Inn in 2017. Check the board when you walk in.
There are some newer dishes on the menu. The seafood platter is for sharing: calamari, whitebait, Atlantic prawns, beer-battered fish goujons, wholetail scampi and mussels, with chunky chips and tartare sauce. The king prawn and mussels pappardelle comes in a cream and dill sauce. The fish burger is fried haddock with lemon mayo and lettuce.
It’s still a pub, so you’re just as welcome for a pint. The Harbour Arm is a short walk away.
In town: The Pullman
7–9 Church Street, Folkestone CT20 1SE
The Pullman isn’t a seafood place. It’s known for pies, steaks and a good line-up of whiskies. There’s still beer-battered haddock and chips, though, so it suits a table where only half of you want fish.
In Sandgate: The Ship Inn
65 Sandgate High Street, Sandgate CT20 3AH
Walk west along the beach to Sandgate and The Ship Inn. There’s been a pub here since 1798, and it joined L&B in 2023. There’s beer-battered haddock and chips on the menu, and the restaurant has a sea view.
